Edward de Bono

Edward de Bono was born in Malta in 1933 and is the undisputed world leader in what may be the most important filed of all in the future: constructive and creative thinking. He is a psychologist, physician and writer.

The term "lateral thinking" was introduced by de Bono and he defines it as methods of thinking concerned with changing concepts and perception. Lateral thinking is about reasoning that is not immediately obvious and about ideas that may not be obtainable by using only traditional step-by-step logic.leaf

In 1969 he founded the Cognitive Research Trust (CoRT) which produces and promotes material based on his work. He has written 75 books which have been translated 37 languages.

He is the creator of "Six Thinking Hats", a powerful technique that helps you look at important decisions from a number of different perspectives. It helps you make better decisions by pushing you to move outside your habitual ways of thinking. As such, it helps you understand the full complexity of the decision, and spot issues and opportunities to which you might otherwise be blind.

Edward de Bono proposes it is not enough to sit and think: action, together with an intentional design of the thought process, is required to constructively advance towards results and change. The appeal of his work is its simplicity and practicality. It can be used by four year olds to Nobel laureates.
